The BEACON- 10/26/17

Greetings, Beacon Families,

This week at Bookman Road we are focusing on the LIFESKILL of Friendship. Friendship means to make and keep a friend through mutual trust and caring.

Here at Bookman Road, we remind students that friendship does not take place automatically or by luck, but it requires intention and effort. Please encourage students to practice friendship at home by introducing themselves to other children at the playground or by interacting nicely with siblings or neighborhood friends.

As adults we can demonstrate friendship by listening carefully to our family members, greeting others in a pleasant way, and laughing together as a family often and genuinely.

Here are some children’s books you may enjoy reading with your Beacon at home:

Elizabeth and Larry by Marilyn Sadler
Marshmallow by Clare Turlay Newberry
The Night the Bells Rang by Natalie Kinsey-Warnock
Lily’s Crossing by Patricia Reilly Giff

Have a great weekend!

Dr. Kendra Hill, Principal

Greetings, Beacon Families,

What an eventful week we've had here at Bookman Road! We would like to thank everyone who came out and supported our most recent school and PTO sponsored events. We certainly had a blast at Skate Night! Congratulations to Mrs. Harter's class and Mrs. Kirkpatrick's class for winning the "Golden Skate Award" and receiving a free pizza party. Way to go!

Other fun activities included participating in the Palmetto Health Walk for Life and the 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year Reception where our own P.E. Teacher, Mr. Brandon Schirmer, was honored. Lastly, we received some awesome news that our wonderful kindergarten team (Mrs. Boswell, Ms. Brown, and Ms. Kuhn), and Mrs. McNeal, one of our Resource teachers, are recipients of one of this year's Sparkleberry Fair grants! They submitted proposals with ideas of ways to enhance their classrooms and instruction, and their proposals were selected for funding. We are so proud of all of the accomplishments of our staff and students.

Just a reminder that there will be no school for students tomorrow as our staff participates in district inservice training. Be safe, and we look forward to seeing all of our Beacons bright and early Monday morning.

Have a great weekend!

Dr. Hill, Principal

Greeting, Beacon Families!

Our Beacons are making a difference!  We would like to thank the members of our Bookman Road community who contributed to and/or  participated in the United Way and Palmetto Health Run/Walk for Life campaign.  Here at Bookman Road, we strive to model the LIFESKILLS of caring and        cooperation for our students by working together for a greater purpose.  With your help we were able to join forces with others throughout the Midlands to contribute to very worthy causes.

Throughout the school year, please be on the lookout for other opportunities to give back to our community through our grade level   charities. Thanks again for your support!
