Message from the Helm

Greetings, Beacon Families!

For the last two weeks we have been focusing on the LIFESKILL of Cooperation. Cooperation means to work together toward a common goal or purpose. At Bookman Road, we teach students that all of our differences make us unique. A very real part of life is being required to work with others who may think or act differently than we do.
Ways that students may practice cooperation at home is by talking and playing with siblings and friends in supportive ways.  At school, students demonstrate cooperation by working on assignments with their learning clubs, carrying out their classroom services, and working together on grade level charities. Currently, students are working with faculty and staff members to raise money for our district’s United Way campaign.
Cooperation is very important to keeping harmony at home and school. As adults, if we want to live and work in a positive environment we have to be able to work together!

Have a wonderful weekend!
Dr. Kendra Hill

Message from the Helm

Greetings, Beacon Families,

Our Kindergarten students put on a fabulous performance this past Monday night at our PTO meeting and our 5th graders’ Ecosystems Science projects were top-notch!  The meeting was well attended and we look forward many more of you joining our wonderful PTO very soon.

I would like to express my gratitude to our PTO Board, and all of you who are members of our PTO, for allowing our teachers to purchase books from our book fair for their classroom library collections.  Having good literature in the classroom is very important, and each year our PTO supports our teachers! Thank you so much for your continued support!

Our Career Day is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 7, 2017.  This is a wonderful time for our students to learn about the world of work and different occupations.  The students always enjoy having their own parent participate or meeting the parents of classmates.
Grades 3rd through 5th will participate.  We need volunteers to come and present their occupation to students.  Volunteers can be parents, other family members, friends, or other members of our community.  Each grade level will come during their SAIL time to rotate through the presenters.  You can sign up for as few or as many grade levels as you would like.  Depending on the number of presenters we have, you will likely present no more than 15 minutes per session. The SAIL periods are scheduled at the following times:  5th grade: 8:45-9:35, 4th grade: 9:40-10:30, and 3rd grade: 10:35-11:25.  Please consider coming to Bookman Road Elementary to share your career experience with our students.  If interested, please use the link to sign up for this event.

Thanks so much for your consideration!

Greetings, Beacon Families!

Our first PTO meeting is this coming Monday, September 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. All parents are invited to attend! We will introduce our staff, hear from our
PTO executive board members, and enjoy a special presentation from our kindergarten students. Our fifth grade students will also highlight the science projects they’ve been working on in class and at home. Lastly, you will have an opportunity to shop at the book fair.

Even if you are not able to attend all of the meetings, we encourage you to still join our awesome PTO to show support for our school. I look forward to seeing you all Monday night!
